Compost Deliveries for Farms

Compost is an essential input for growers to improve and maintain healthy soil. In addition to other soil health-building practices a farm may use, compost puts nutrients back into the soil, supports beneficial microorganisms, increases soil’s water retention, and helps grow healthy, productive harvests. Compost also completes an important part of a local food system when food scraps and compostable materials are diverted from landfills and used as a key ingredient in producing nutrient-rich compost to feed our soil and grow healthy, local food.

To support farms in maintaining healthy soil and the role of compost in our local food system, Food Well Alliance is working with CompostNow to starve landfills and provide farms in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, or Gwinnett counties with a 15-cubic yard delivery of high-quality, food scrap-based compost.

Farm Compost Delivery requests are currently closed. This resource is typically available January to March to get farms ready for spring.

Considerations for Farm Compost Delivery

Is my farm eligible for a compost delivery from Food Well Alliance? This resource is available to existing farms in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, or Gwinnett counties that consistently make their food and farm products available for community consumption through means such as selling at local farmers market, through a CSA-style program, direct to local consumers (farmstand, online sales, or other direct means), through donation, and/or through other sales channels (local retail, restaurants, etc.).

Tell me more about the compost. The compost delivered through this farm resource is made by CompostNow right here in metro Atlanta at their Douglas County compost farm. This compost is made from food scraps collected from metro Atlanta homes and businesses as well as wood chips. Its ideal for amending clay soils, topdressing growing beds, or working into existing soil. CompostNow's food scrap compost will improve water retention, supply plants with balanced nutrients, and build soil microbiology.

How does delivery work? Click the “Request Compost” button below; it will take you to a short form. After you submit the form, you will be contacted by a CompostNow team member to confirm details and coordinate delivery. A 15-cubic yard dump truck must be able to access your site (remember side and overhead clearance) to make the delivery. Delivery timeframes may vary, but your delivery will likely happen within 2-3 weeks of submitting your request.

*Please Note – No-show Delivery Costs: In the event that a farm can’t be reached for a scheduled delivery after the delivery date and time have been set, and the delivery driver cannot complete the delivery, then the farm will be charged the local delivery fees (based on mileage/location of the farm). If something comes up last minute, please communicate with the CompostNow team.
