Composting 101 and Service Day at Truly Living Well

  • Truly Living Well (map)

On June 30, the Georgia Conservancy and the Atlanta Community Compost Council (a partnership of the Food Well Alliance and the Georgia Recycling Coalition) are collaborating to bring you the opportunity to learn about the importance of community-scale compost systems for urban farms and the communities they serve. It will take place at Truly Living Well’s beautiful Collegetown Farm, the home of a new 3-bin compost system that is newly available as a resource for residents in the West End community to divert their food scraps from the landfill.

The event will include an interactive presentation that will teach attendees:

Composting 101: how it works

Why composting is important for urban farms and communities

How to take advantage of Truly Living Well’s new composting system

*If attendees save up their own food scraps at home and bring them to the event, they will get a chance to learn hands-on about composting their own material.

After the educational session we will get our hands dirty, assisting the farm with some site clearing, planting, and other tasks to help improve the space. It is a great chance to give back to an organization that gives so much to its community, and to learn more about what it takes to keep a farm running in the heart of a growing in-town neighborhood.
