Resources for Farmers

In 2022, Food Well Alliance did an orientation for farmers to help them learn more about the USDA resources available to them. The orientation covered resources for beginning farmers that are just starting out and looking for assistance with startup costs, land acquisition, or loan guarantees as well as established farmers looking to offset the costs of a large project or those interested in transitioning to a more sustainable or organic operation could benefit as well.

Agencies present included: Farm Service Agency, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and the Risk Management Agency.

Food Well Alliance is here to support farmers in more ways than one! At our Farm Support Offerings Workshop members of our Resource Team gave a rundown of all the opportunities farmers can utilize:

  • Farm Support Grants (including a new Farm Forward Grant)

  • Labor Support Stipends

  • Labor Support through our partners such as Eco-PARADIGM

  • Compost Delivery

  • Mechanical Assistance

  • Tool Rentals through the Atlanta Community ToolBank

Planting for Pollinators

Pollinators play a critical role in our ecosystem and without them we wouldn’t be able to grow the food we rely on to survive. One key way of protecting pollinators is by creating habitats where these insects and animals can thrive.

In this guide, you’ll learn the different types of pollinators, why they’re important, why you should plant native species, and advice on what to plant.

Peach State Pollinators Webinar

Want to make your garden a pollinator’s paradise? Need help identifying insect species? Watch the Peach State Pollinators Webinar hosted by Food Well Alliance and UGA Entomology Professor Carmen Blubaugh.
